I just had to do this post this morning as I still am so saddened by the tragedy in Connecticut. As a former elementary teacher and now a mom, I just cannot imagine the absolute grief the families of the lost children and staff are going through. As I put Jared to bed last night, all I could think about was the mothers and fathers who would never be able to put their children to bed again. I had cried so much last night, when I went to bed, all I could do was pray for these families. As I look at our Christmas tree with all of the gifts for Jared, I could only think of the parents, grandparents, etc. that have their presents ready under the tree for the little ones- now they will never have another Christmas.
All I can think is to hold Jared tighter and to always tell the ones I love how much they mean to me!! Continue to pray for all of these families and pray for this nation.

What a great show!!
WOW- what a great show this past weekend at the Museum of Appalachia. Too much to see. The weather was great- a bit hot (and i forgot my hat) but thank goodness it wasn't raining. What a great setting for an antique show. Jill Peterson did a great job with the show. We love to support historical sites such as the museum and wow what a crowd they had. Took the camera but was too busy trying to see everything to get a lot of pics. Did manage to get Jared to sit still for a minute to take this cute one. His favorite part of the show was the music. He could just sit for hours to listen and watch folks playing the hammered dulcimer, banjo, fiddle, etc. If the show is held again next year and you didn't get to go this time, please make plans to attend. Although I don't have facebook- Barbara Pyatt sent me an e-mail that WALKER HOMESTEAD has some great pics from the show on their facebook page.

Looking forward to another Tennessee trip...
Yes, the weather has finally cooled just a bit and I feel that Fall will soon be on its way. If you haven't already heard about it, the upcoming DAYS OF THE PIONEER SHOW at the Museum of Appalachia in Clinton, TN will be held this coming weekend. We are so excited about visiting the museum again and attending the antique show. We often go to the museum while in TN to visit the animals that reside out by the parking lot. We have been through the whole museum years and years ago and even brought home an enormous amount of sheared wool one time!! It is a wonderful and inspiring place for those of you that love history, farm life and especially (like us) log cabins/early structures. Every time we go it gives me "cabin fever" as I want to bring another abandoned cabin here to our farm as soon as I get home. It is nice that we can visit with Hank's dad and get to visit such great places. Since Hank and I have been married now for 21 years and as much as we are in TN, I feel that it is my second "home". I hope you can visit there, if not this weekend, but soon. If you see us wandering around and are a follower of my blog, please stop me and say hello. You will certainly recognize us with a certain cute young man by our side!! Have a wonderful week and hope that everyone who is going enjoys the show.

The Gathering Show...
Just wanted to say a big thanks to all of you who stopped by our booth at The Gathering Show this past weekend in Knoxville, TN. We had a great time and met some great new customers. It was also good to be next to Barbara and Giles- NC CABIN IN THE WOODS and I met a great gal named Kim Murray, from Alabama who had some wonderful handmade prims- I had to buy one of her witches!! And of course, Robin's booth- MILLSTONE MERCANTILE- looked great as usual. Now to getting the shop back in order. I also picked up a few new old goodies and can't wait to get them in the shop. Enjoy the pics from the show- don't you love my assistant??

Okay, I know it's been a while however, between getting ready for our upcoming show in Knoxville next week, working on two rental houses, mowing, mowing and mowing- AND most of all keeping a 3 year old busy on these hot summer days, haven't had a lot of time for blogging!! Not to mention the fact that we have been without phone/internet for almost 2 weeks due to road construction!! Anyway, I am busy getting ready for the upcoming Gathering Show in Knoxville, TN. We are looking forward to seeing folks we met last time and hopefully meeting a lot of new folks. It should be a great show. We hope to be in our same location as last year and we are excited that our friends- Barbara and Giles from NC Cabin in the Woods will be next to us. Click on the link to the right to visit the show's website.
Also, the shop will be open this Saturday, August 18- if you are in the area, please stop by.

Happy Trails....
What a couple of cute cowboys!! Hank and Jared were having a great time "riding the range" last week at Tweetsie. This was a surprise trip for Jared- as it was also the week of Thomas the Train. Tweetsie was alot of fun for all of us. I can remember going there when I was a little girl. If you have never been and have little ones- it's worth the trip!

A Sunday outing...
Sunday, we visited a beautiful farm down in Liberty just about 20 minutes south of us called RISING MEADOW FARM. They raise beautiful sheep, along with llamas, chickens and cows. It was a great afternoon for getting out and seeing what other folks are doing. Jared enjoyed visiting the sheep and checking out the llamas. He even got to find an egg in one of the chicken's boxes. My plan was to get chickens a few years ago but that got put on hold with the addition of the donkeys. Soon though I hope. Enjoy the pics of Jared ( and the sheep).
In the garden...
Okay, yesterday as I was working at the barn in our vegetable garden, I thought, I need my camera to take some new pics. Well, I didn't get to it, but they are coming. We are re-doing around the fence and I wanted to show off our blackberry bushes- they are gorgeous- if I may say. Can't wait to have some fresh blackberries to make cobblers this year. These are a thornless variety and are doing very well. We visited a local farm on Sunday- RISING MEADOW FARM. I was inspired to get home and get to work!! These folks have a beautiful place and raise several different breeds of sheep- hint hint!!! It's great to get out and see what other folks are doing. I will try to add some pics from Sunday that we took. We are getting some much needed rain today, so I am trying to catch up on inside projects!! Jared has been busy making great gifts for some special ladies in his life for mother's day. Watch for more on the progress on our little farm!

The CROSSWALK...
As a remembrance of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, our church, Tabernacle United Methodist, has a CROSSWALK through downtown Greensboro on Good Friday. This year, I was able to participate in this silent and humble walk. It was a wonderful experience and I look forward to making it part of my Easter celebration each year. Thanks to Andy Griffin for the photos, for more, please visit his blog at Online Gallery of Crosswalk photos.
PS I am wrapped up in the orange TN sweatshirt. It was a bit nippy!! Have a wonderful Easter!!
****I have tried about 5 times to put on the pics- no luck- just check out Andy's link Thanks!

Re-opening of the shop
Okay friends, I think I am almost ready. I am planning to re-open the shop beginning Friday, March 30. I am working day and night to get it ready again. I am excited ( and a little nervous) to get things going again. Although I sold out of several of my new handmades at the show, I will be working on some more goodies for the shop to be ready in time for the opening. The shop will be open by appointment- we love for folks to call- it's no problem!! The weekend of the re-opening we will be open on Friday, March 30 from 1-4 and Saturday, March 31 from 11-4. I hope you get a chance to stop by. Please note that there will not be a sign at the end of our driveway. We have had some strange visitors, so it's best not to draw unnecessary attention!! ANyway, if you can't make it that weekend, as I said call anytime. Thanks and will keep you posted with any updates.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Our sweet Jared turned 3 on Thursday!! I can't believe how time flies. He is becoming so grown up and independent- thank goodness he is just 3. When the day is hectic or things are not going so great, I can always count on Jared to make me smile (even when sometimes he is the one causing the upset )- ha ha!! Enjoy your little ones everyday- they won't be little for long.

Pics from the show...
Thanks to all who stopped by our booth at the show in Knoxville. We were pleased with the show but hope the next one in August will be a bit better. I met some great folks, especially my neighbors at the show from Alabama (Primitive Corner)- they had a great booth!! We were proud to be awarded the "best in show" booth- thanks Jackie. Go to my website to see some pics. Now to unpacking and some serious work in the shop. I am praying I can get the shop re-opened at the end of March- will keep everyone posted. Have a great week!

SEE YOU IN TENNESSEE
Okay folks, I have literally been sewing today until my fingers bled- really!! I stitched up a last pillow and my poor fingers were in pain from all the needle pricks. I finished up some cool prim turnips- they took forever- but will look good for the show in Knoxville. We are trying to pack the van as carefully as possible- still have to leave for Jared though- ha ha!! I am looking forward to the show this weekend and as soon as we get back, I promise to get busy back on the shop. Of course, my first priority next week is a certain little boy's 3rd birthday!! Anyway, be sure to stop by my booth and say hello if you are headed to the show- it looks to be a good one!!

HAPPY SUNDAY...
Just wanted to work on my blog a little on this wintry Sunday. We have been inside all day (sorry but we played hooky from church today). It is drizzling, sleeting and snowing a bit here in NC. Had planned to work on some things for my upcoming show, but honestly, I'm just not up to it today. Feeling a little poorly, but hopefully with a couple of more doses of ibuprofen, I will be ready to hit the workshop tomorrow!! Hank cut out a few prim goods for me to paint and grungy tomorrow- hopefully the weather will cooperate. Jared may be having a "snow day" from his mother's morning out tomorrow due to the bad weather (so I may have to call grandma for back-up). Anyway, I also wanted to let everyone know that I had incorrectly listed the wrong website address in a prior blog, but it has been corrected. I hope you have a chance to check out the website as I have finally added some new pics from the house. Hope you enjoy. Have a great day and stay warm!!

We will not be at the show in Nashville but check it out as well if you are in the area. I have got my sewing/crafting area up and running again- so it's time to get back into production. Changes are coming!!
Happy first day of February!! I hope everyone is well on this warm winter day!! I wanted to let you know of changes that will be coming to Back Shed. First of all, we will be closing our booth in Gibsonville at the end of Feb. so many items have been marked down. I just added some Valentine goodies as well, so be sure to stop by. Also, we will be re-opening the shop this Spring with a new name- FOUR MEADOWS CABIN. I plan to still offer the best prims, but with some nice additions of vintage, cottage, whimsical and who knows what else?? It's time to lighten things up a bit! This will give folks a broader selection in the shop. We plan to be open by appointment (which I love for folks to do) and occasionally for a special event. I am excited about the changes. The website and the blog will be changing addresses- so I will inform everyone as soon as I get that done. We look forward to the new year and I especially look forward to seeing old friends and new ones as well.

HEE HAW...
Okay, I just couldn't resist this adorable graphic I found when searching for donkeys. I am really feeling the need this year to lighten and brighten things- not in my house- just in general!! Anyway, I am beginning to get the creative juices flowing again- I hope. Watch for changes coming in the next few weeks and some exciting news regarding our currently closed shop.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Just wanted to say a happy new year to everyone. It has so busy during Christmas this year, seems like I am finally getting a chance to breathe! Watch for updates on the website as well as some changes that will be coming for Back Shed. The shop is still closed, so please be sure to visit my booth at Gibsonville Antiques. I finally got the Christmas tree out last week and fluffed the booth a bit. Many items have been reduced, so be sure to check it out. Keep watching for updates.
